Hot and mineral springs are one the most beautiful attractions around the world . In Iran more than 460 hot springs have been identified and it seems that there are many more to be explored. Different aspects of these springs such as spring rise, pools and water canals, deposits with different chemical compositions and colors, different algae coatings, historical monuments related to hot springs and natural landscapes around them are attracting many tourists. Another more important tourism attraction of hot springs is their therapeutic uses that have had a long history around the world and also in Iran. Hot springs therapeutic uses are deeply related to their water geochemical characteristics. Fortunately Iranian hot springs have vast geochemical variations. Hot spring of Sarein is one of the most renowned springs in the country.

Hot spring of Sarein

Serein, a city in Iran’s northwestern Province of Ardabil, located 25 km from the provincial capital of Ardabil on the slopes of Sablan Heights attracts a large number of tourists due to its favorable weather condition and numerous spas.

The word Serein in the Persian dictionary means “spring’s Outlet”

At the foot of the Sablan Mountains lies a unique natural spa region with numerous hot mineral springs of various temperatures renowned for their therapeutic values and hot springs are the first attractions to tourists who travel to this region from different parts of Iran and the world.

The city is known for its hot mineral springs, the water is heated largely by the Sablan Mountain, which is Iran’s second highest mountain after Damavand.

There are 12 hot springs in Serein, with ‘Gavmesh Goli’ being the hottest, with water reaching 67 degrees, and turning out around 80 liters per second from the source.

The steamy waters emanating from the depths of the earth are rich in sulfur, calcium, lithium, and other minerals, and are believed to offer relief to patients suffering from joint pain, and some skin, nerve and arthritis diseases.

* Sand therapy on world’s tallest sand dunes in Kerman

Rigan County is located in the east of Kerman Province by the hot Lut Desert and situated on the path of one of the main roads in the country. History in this part of Iran is very rich and indicates the existence of wealthy civilizations. It is said that Rigan’s history began simultaneously with Bam, another city in Kerman province and a world heritage site registered in UNESCO’s list, which emerged at least at the time of Achaemenid (6th to 4th centuries).

The world’s highest sand dunes are another tourist attraction of Rigan. Each year, due to seasonal winds, the height and length of these dunes increase even more. Some of the sand dunes in this area are 75 m high. The dunes are one of the most exquisite and natural landscapes in Rigan, and quite unique in their kind.

The sand dunes are located 12 kilometers from the center of Rigan and are easily accessible to visitors. Most tourists travel to this part of Kerman Province for therapeutic effects attributed to the sands. According to the medical staff present in Rigan, sand therapy can relieve muscle and joint pain over time, as the sand gradually transfers the heat to the person’s body and thus eases pain.

The area has become a tourist attraction as people travel from neighboring provinces to treat their illnesses by burying themselves under the hot sand.

The other function of salt therapy is cleansing the lungs from urban and industrial pollutants. Those who refer to the Respiratory Center for cleaning their lungs stay 45 minutes or more in cave-like rooms which are full of salt. Inhaling in such atmosphere could destroy bacteria, and cleanse nasal mucosa and lungs.
